About Me

📌 Bergen, Norway

Welcome to Live Superlatively. My name is Laurie Boeh (pronounced “Boo-ee”), and I am passionate about many things.   If you know me, the name of this blog makes sense because when I have new experiences, I tend to describe them as the BEST EVER! I especially love cooking and traveling, and (as the kids say) I’m not gonna lie, I’m really good at both! Before we get into my thoughts on amazing places to go and incredible things to eat, let me tell you a little more about myself. I’m a mother of three that lives on a quirky little island off the coast of Texas. I grew up in a small town in rural Oklahoma and followed my big brother to college in Texas (Sic’em Bears!) I then moved to Washington, DC as quickly as I could after graduation where I lived for 16 years. I started out on Capitol Hill (before getting my fill of politics), spent many years in event management, and worked in fundraising and alumni affairs for both Georgetown and American universities. I married a native Virginian (Scott) who shares my love of travel and food. Almost 25 years later, we have made ourselves a wonderful life in Galveston, TX.

Annual Christmas Eve Gumbo

So let’s begin with the food. My grandmother was a traditional Southern 1950s-type cook — a roast every Sunday, baked chicken, “meat patties,” and casseroles made with either a can of mushroom soup or a packet of onion soup mix. (Or both if we were lucky!) Having been born just after Statehood and living most of her life in southeastern Oklahoma, there wasn’t much exposure to ethnic foods. My mom, though, was (and is) much more innovative. She has always loved trying new dishes and cuisines, and we are constantly trading recipes! I’m fortunate that my own family enjoys trying new things, and since we first began to date, Scott and I have both loved spending time together in the kitchen. We love to cook, and we love to go out, so in Live Superlatively, I will share both favorite recipes and fantastic restaurants.

Travel

📌Chicago w/ high school besties

When it comes to travel, anyone that has traveled with me knows that I obsess over planning.  I spend hours choosing just the right hotels, activities and places to eat. And of course, those choices depend on if it’s a getaway with my husband, a family vacation, or a girls’ trip. However, in addition to my well-researched itinerary, I also try to leave time for just experiencing the culture of where I am visiting. I certainly love seeing all the favorite tourist spots, but I also try to dig deeper into the community. My favorite days on a trip are usually the ones where I wander interesting neighborhoods and stumble upon local shops, galleries, and cafes recommended by the people I meet. ( I would love to help you plan your next trip! Email me to discuss! 📧 LiveSuperlatively@gmail.com)

Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the world, people get together to eat.

Guy Fieri

The Best!

Although I like to think I’m more of an Anthony-Bourdain-type than a Guy-Fieri-type, Guy does sum up my thoughts on my two passions, and why this blog makes sense to me. As I wrote in my very first blog post, Live Superlatively is my attempt to share some of the superlatives in my life — the very best places, food, drinks and experiences, whether in my own backyard or on one of my well-planned trips. I hope you will join me!
